TONBRIDGE
Good evening,
I am hoping the below will be of interest to you and your members.
I am PC Joe Breen from Tonbridge Police station, so far this summer we have held two bike marking events as a closure phase of an operation targeting bike thieves, during this operation we made 8 arrests.
The first was held at Barden Road by the railway station on 24th Novembr 2015. It was run by me, part of the new Tonbridge and Malling Community Policing Team (CPT), local PCSO’s also assisted in marking the bicycles. The Police contact point was deployed and officers on hand to offer safety advice as part of Kent Police’s ‘stay safe this spring’ campaign. Representatives from neighbourhood watch were also there. The event was successful and was attended by approximately 50 members of the public.
The second event was held at Halfords car park in Cannon Lane, Tonbridge on 7th June. This event was a huge success and was attended by more than 100 members of the public.
The bicycles are marked with a bikeregister permanent marking kit. A unique code is assigned to each bicycle and the details are placed onto a national register www.bikeregister.com, you need to have an email address and will be sent log on details by Bikeregister after the event. The mark is a permanent etch onto the frame which is visible under UV light, a visible tamperproof sticker is also used. If the bicycle is lost or stolen and recovered, it enables us to identify the owner far easier and return the bicycle to them. The kit is also a great deterrent. The bikes are marked for free, kits usually retailing at £16.99.
The next event in Tonbridge is scheduled for Saturday 19th July and will be held at Cycles UK in Tonbridge High Street from 1000 to 1600 hours.
I have attached a poster also, please distribute as you see fit.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me
Regards
Joe
